Recommender Grants for Theatre Creators
The Recommender Grants for Theatre Creators program, funded by the Ontario Arts Council, supports playwrights and creation collectives in the development of new Canadian work.
Soulpepper seeks ambitious works that speak to the diversity of modern-day Canada, and to diverse artists and audiences, written by emerging or mid-career playwrights.
Soulpepper is interested in projects that aim to share vital stories that resonate with our community, city, and province from unique, diverse, perspectives. Out of necessity, many playwrights working today are forced to limit their works to 3-4 performers. Soulpepper is unique in the landscape in being able to embrace and support projects with an ambitious sense of scale, including larger ensemble works. These will be of interest to us. We will also be looking to strengthen and broaden the Canadian theatrical ‘canon’ by seeking works from a non-Western perspective. This may include having works adapted or translated from cultures that are currently under-represented.
Questions for Soulpepper can be directed to Kimberly Colburn, Senior Producer, New Work Development at firstname.lastname@example.org
SOULPEPPER'S DEADLINE: November 15, 2021, 1 p.m. ET
PLAYwright SUBMISSIONS – ACCEPTED THROUGH June
If you are a Canadian playwright with at least one professional production (Festivals count) whose work we haven’t read, we’d like to get to know you. Anytime in the month of June send us a letter of introduction (no more than a page), a CV, and a brief description/synopsis of the play of yours you are currently most excited about. We can’t read everything you’re writing but we’d like to know who you are and what you’re doing for future reference.
We only accept these letters of introduction to Guillermo Verdecchia, Director of Play Development in June.
The Young Centre has a vibrant volunteer ushering program - if you are interested in applying, please email email@example.com.
Soulpepper Theatre Company holds General Auditions annually.
Canadian Actors’ Equity Association members will be auditioned first. We strongly encourage submissions from actors of diverse cultures, abilities, and backgrounds.
